Following the publication in September 2004 of the Arts Council’s document Towards a Policy for the Traditional Arts, I wrote an appraisal of this important and refreshing piece of work for the November-December 2004 issue of JMI. Even though it’s a policy document by a State agency I still think it’s a great read! I’m impressed at the sensitive way that it tackled a difficult area and I admire the clarity of its practical and achievable recommendations – everything is attainable and the timing looked really good.
